Rebellious ballroom dancer Scott Hastings (Paul Mercurio) defies the rigid rules of competitive dancing by performing his own flashy steps, much to the horror of the Australian Dance Federation. When his frustrated partner abandons him, awkward beginner Fran (Tara Morice) offers to dance with him using his unconventional style. As they train together in secret, Scott discovers both his artistic passion and unexpected love. Eventually he must choose between conforming to the establishment's demands for a guaranteed championship or staying true to his creative vision. He must now struggle to overcome family pressure, federation politics, and his own fears to dance from the heart at the Pan-Pacific Grand Prix Championships.
